Dr Pérez Martín appointed new editor of IAHR Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research (JAWER)

Dr Miguel Ángel Pérez Martín
Dr Miguel Ángel Pérez Martín has been appointed new editor of IAHR's Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research (JAWER) replacing Dr David Smith.

Miguel Ángel Pérez Martín (1974), Associate Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) (Polytechnic University of Valencia), Spain, teaches and conducts research in the areas of water resources planning and management, hydrological modelling and water quality in large catchments, the impact of climate change on water resources, and the use of renewable energies combined with water management. Dr Pérez Martin is a Civil Engineer (2000) and PhD in Hydraulicand Environmental Engineering (2005) by the UPV.

He conducts research at the UPV Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering in the areas of hydrological modelling and nitrate transport in aquifers and surface water in large basins, water management in drought conditions, climate change effects on water resources systems, and combined use of photovoltaic systems with water pumping or desalination. Web of Science Researcher ID (J-1565-2012), h-index 11 and more than 20 publications.

Author of the PATRICAL model, a tool for the mathematical modelling of the hydrological cycle and the water quality of large basins, that has been applied in the Jucar River Basin (2005) and all Spanish basins (2008). The module PATRICAL allows to build simulation models to analyse water flows and nitrate concentration in water, including surface and groundwater. Hydrological models are spatially distributed, and their results are the water flows produced in different points of the basin and piezometric levels on aquifers. The model also includes the simulation of nitrate transport on water in the soil, in the non-saturated zone, in aquifers and in surface waters.
