Abstract: Three dimensional (3D) calculations are presented regarding the influence of rigid submerged vegetation on the mean flow and turbulence in open channels using the Scale Adaptive Simulation (SAS) model. SAS is a hybrid turbulence model that combines Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS), in stable flow regions, with unsteady modeling where instabilities are detected. Calculations show that the agreement with available experimental data and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is good for the mean flow, whereas turbulence is satisfactorily predicted.
