Automated Grid Generation for Flood Prediction Using LIDAR Data

Abstract: Due to the complicated topography, it is difficult to predict flood flow around urbanized areas. Recently, airborne laser mapping system has become available which is capable of giving very detailed topographical information. In this study, we developed a high resolution inundation analysis system using airborne laser survey results. The system enables an automatic grid generation while detecting location of buildings and streets. With this system, it would become possible to construct high accurate hazard maps in urban areas.
