Abstract: The simulation of a two dimensional dam-break flow on a loose sediment bed with a twophase depth-integrated model is concerned. The investigated configuration is base on the blind modeling test proposed for NSF PIRE Workshop. In the absence of a calibration stage, a novel closure for the model is presented in this paper, which is formulated in order to comply with existing experimental results. The proposed closure relations present only one a parameter (drag coefficient) which is not explicitly linked to the sediment properties. The sensitivity to this model parameter for the considered application is investigated by means of numerical simulation. Results show that the drag coefficient has a neat influence on the hydrodynamics of the near field, and on the predicted final bottom topography. The near field region is found to extend in the streamwise direction about three times the initial water height upstream the dam.
