Abstract: It has been shown that fuzzy theory is able to comprehensively estimate fish habitat in rivers (Matsuzaki and Tamai, 1996a). This paper presents an improved method for evaluating fish habitat environments. The previous study was based on only the preference of fish. However, it is important to regard the avoidance activities of fish for special physical factors, such as water temperature and water quality. The proposed method is especially effective in regions like Japan where environmental conditions vary in each segment of the river, and there are various fish species.
