Photographs of estuaries
I am preparing a set of lecture notes on mixing and dispersion in rivers for my undergraduate class. The subject website is : www.uq.edu.au/~e2hchans/civ4140.html
I am looking for good-quality photographs (prints or digital) of estuaries to illustrate my notes. I am also looking for photographs of salt wedge shape (when the salt water front reach the free-surface), mixing process in estuaries (e.g. dye experiment), and unusual estuary process.

The Extremes of the Extremes: Extraordinary Floods
by Arni Snorasson, Helga P. Finnsdóttir & Marshall Moss
Publisher: IAHS; ISBN: 1-901502-66-X; 408 + xiv pages; Price: £60
Extreme floods are among the most destructive forces of nature, and there is a perception that they are occurring with higher frequency now than in the past. This is a cause for international concern and calls for an understanding of the circumstances that might generate such disastrous events, and was the motive for the Reykjavík symposium on extraordinary floods, the Extremes of the Extremes, co-convened by the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) and the Hydrological Service in Iceland; this publication is an outcome of that meeting. The main focus of the 60 papers included in this volume is the geophysical processes related to floods, but the statistical and mathematical aspects of flood analysis and forecasting are also addressed, and the issues of flooding and flood abatement are put into economic, social and ethical perspective.

River Flood Defence
by Frank Toensmann and Manfred Koch
Publisher: Herkules Verlag Kassel; ISBN: 3-930150-20-4; 3 parts; 1418 pages; Euro 75.
The origins, effects and control of flood events are described by 130 international authors in the three-part book "River Flood Defence". It provides a description of the status of the research and the technology, it gives hints for new developments and research requirements and it shows examples of planning and practice. The contributions and discussion results of the workshop "Pollutants and Pathogens in Flood" are emphasised, as well as the description and evaluation of the IRMA and EXPO projects. River Flood Defence is equally suitable for teaching and research, as well as for water resources-engineering practice in administrations, federations and consulting companies.

Integrated Water Resources Management
by Miguel A. Mariño & Slobodan P. Simonovic
Publisher: IAHS; ISBN: 1-901502-71-6; 442 + xiv pages; Price: £65
Over the last two decades the way in which we manage water and related natural resources in different regions of the world has changed fundamentally. The organizational models that have worked well for over a hundred years no longer exist, yet the models that will replace them are still in the process of being defined; we are in a period of major transition. A new framework for water resources management based on the principle of integrated watershed management, described as "a form of coordinated management of land and water resources within a region, with the objectives of preventing land degradation, protecting the quality of the freshwater resource, protecting biodiversity, and continuing sustainable use, within a context which includes genuine community/government partnerships and recognition of socio-economic objectives" is emerging.
