Introduction to Hydrogeology
By J.C. Nonner
Publisher: Balkema; ISBN: 90 2651 869 2 Price: € 79; Publication Date: July 2002

Groundwater is one of the most important resources of the world. This textbook gives an introduction to this topic. It covers all major fields in hydrogeology and includes outlines on the occurrance of groundwater in various rock types, the movement and storage of groundwater, the formulation of groundwater balances, and the development of groundwater chemistry. The practical application of hydrogeology for groundwater development is worked out in the last chapter. A unique systems approach has been followed to describe and connect the various elements contained in this book. In addition, a large selection of examples of groundwater cases from various parts of the world is taken up in the text. The theoretical parts and the examples are illustrated with a large number of drawings, photo's and computer printouts.
This book can be used for education in hydrogeology at post-graduate and graduate level. It is not only meant as formal training for future hydrogeologists, but can also be considered as study material or a reference book for other professionals and decision makers involved in water or water related activities.

Greek dam stepped spillway
A new website on the 1885 Gold Creek dam and its 1890 historical stepped spillway system has been set up at: www.uq.edu.au/~e2hchans/gold_crk.html
(Click PROCEED when arriving to the UQ Web Resources / Staff Web Page)
The stepped spillway is the first use (ever in the world) of non reinforced concrete for a stepped cascade, and the precursor of modern RCC dam spillway. Its continuous and successful operation for more than a century demonstrates the sound design. The website details the historical significance of the dam spillway, present a large collection of photographs, including overflow events.
