Comparative characteristics of air-water
flows in freshwater and seawater
We have been involved in a detailed study of similitude and physical
modelling of air bubble entrainment at vertical plunging jets in
freshwater and seawater. Complete, detailed results may be downloaded
freely as a series of PDF files from : www.uq.edu.au/~e2hchans/reprints/tut02.zip
Our work highlighted some major differences between freshwater and
seawater (see report conclusion). However the published literature
on the topic is thin.
We are looking at published research on comparative characteristics
of air-water flows in freshwater and seawater. We seek your help
to regroup relevant references, and possibly to re-analyse unpublished
works.

The Technical Standards and Commentaries for Port and Harbour
Facilities in Japan
Published by The Overseas Coastal Area Development Institute
of Japan
Japan is famous for its long coastline (34,000 km) and a large number
of coastal ports and harbours (1,100 commercial ones and 3,000 fishing
ports). To promote the healthy development of ports and harbours
in Japan, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has
established the technical standards for port and harbour facilities
in 1978 and updated them every 10 years. The technical standards
and commentaries have been written in Japanese naturally, and therefore
the contents were the mystery for overseas engineers and researchers.
Now the English translation of the newest edition in 1999 is available
for purchase.
