Student looking for European Leonardo Placement
I'm studying Environmental Engineering in the Polytechnic University
of Milan, Italy.
I have studied geotechnic , hydrology, reservoir management, etc.
The last subject I have studies is maritime hydraulics and I would
like to end my studies with an internship abroad in that field.
I think I could get a bursary within the Leonardo programme and
I would appreciate any information concerning this.

French Engineer looking for a job
I am a French engineer in coastal and offshore engineering. After
a three-year course in the Marine department at ISITV (Superior
Institute of Engineer Toulon & Var, South of
France), I obtained my diploma in September and I am now searching
for a company or a laboratory in which I could use my energy and
experience. I have just achieved a 6 months internship in Australia
at Griffith Centre for Coastal Management (Gold Coast) with Professor
Rodger TOMLINSON on project management, coastal structures investigation
for beach protection, coastal processes assessment and numerical
modelling with DELFT3D.

Concerted Action in the Fifth Framework Programme, with 13 partners
from across Europe. The project is striving to bring together research
institutions and end users, with a leading involvement in the mitigation
of natural hazards with a meteorological cause. MITCH is being conducted

Investigation of Extreme Flood Processes & Uncertainty
The IMPACT project addresses the assessment and reduction of risks
from extreme flooding caused by natural events or the failure of
dams and flood defence structures. In Europe, the asset value of
dam and flood defence structures amounts to many billions of Euro.
These structures include, for example, dams, weirs, sluices, flood
embankments, dikes, tailings dams etc. Whilst such extreme flood
events are rare, when they do occur they can pose a significant
threat to human life (e.g. 400 casualties for the Malpasset Dam
failure) and immense economic and environmental damage. To manage
and minimise these risks effectively, it is necessary to be able
to identify hazards and vulnerability in a consistent and reliable
manner, to have good knowledge of structure behaviour in emergency
situations, and to understand the potential consequences of failure
in order to allow effective contingency planning for public safety.
This research project is currently under contract negotiation with
the European Commission with an expected start date of the End 2001
/ Beginning 2002. A full project website will be established upon
commencement of the project. In the meantime, a summary of the project
aims and objectives is given at www.samui.co.uk/impact-project/
B-SPAN, a gate to the World Bank
B-SPAN offers anyone with access to the Internet an opportunity
to see policy
seminars and presentations that are held regularly at the World
Bank. These
presentations, by leading experts from around the world, are held
on a variety
of sustainable development and poverty reduction issues. Though
interested
individuals and Bank staff are often not able to attend these live
events, these
presentations are still available for later viewing as they become
part of
B-SPAN's permanent archive. A new website has been started to archive
the
video materials for future viewing. Over time, the B-SPAN website
will become a
virtual library of information on development and poverty issues.
