Building up experience in water research
I’m a student at the Polytechnic of Turin (Italy) and I'm
in the fifth year of my "Environment and Territory” course.
I’m back from Canada where I have worked at National Water
Research Institute for six months on my master diploma thesis (Title:”
Biosafety of Bioremediation Techniques: Characterization of the
Pilot Sand Aquifer and PCE monitoring”). |
I would like to continue
building up experience in water research, and I’m looking
now for a job because I could sit my last exam at the university
only on January. I would appreciate any information on job opportunities,
stages or PhD available in the field of water research.

Flood Pulsing in Wetlands
An Evaluation of the National Investment in
Municipal Wastewater Management
By Beth A. Middleton
Published by John Wiley, ISBN: 0471 41807 2; Publication date: April

Flood pulsing is a natural hydraulic occurrence in ecosystems
of rivers, streams and cypress swamps, and plays an important role
in seed dispersal and thus successful long term restoration. This
book bridges the information gap between universities and the private
sector by presenting timely and useful research to the private sector
in an area of restoration where until recently, there has been very
little information.

Modelling the hydrodynamics of the Thurne river system and its
influence on Hickling Broad in the Broads national park, Norfolk,
UK
The Thurne catchment is an extremely important part of the Broads
national park, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). There are many
conflicting pressures from wetland biodiversity interests, recreation
and intensive agricultural use. An understanding of the complex pattern
of water and nutrient movements within the river and Broad (shallow
lake) system of the catchment is a fundamental prerequisite for any
future ecological modelling. Research will include a programme of
existing data collation, field monitoring and 3-D (or quasi 3-D) hydrodynamic
modelling, including water quality, of the river/ Broad system. For
informal enquiries about this PhD studentship, please contact Dr Sue
White at: sue.white@cranfield.ac.uk.
