World Water Vision - Sectoral Consultation on Water in Rivers

A major exercise entitled "World Water Vision" is currently underway at the global level under the auspices of the World Water Council and co-ordinated by a Vision Unit at UNESCO. For more information http://www.watervision.org/

IAHR has been invited by the Vision Unit to act as networking partner in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction, Japan, WMO and UNESCO on a sectoral consultation called "Water in Rivers". This consultation complements others covering Water for Food, Water for People and Water for Nature. The results will be presented at the Second World Water Forum and interministerial conference in The Hague, March 2000 and will be used to shape future investment in the area. An important discussion paper has been prepared by IAHR to initiate discussion focussing on the key issue of flooding. A complementary discussion paper has been prepared by the Japanese Ministry for Construction which considers rivers in the broadest sense. The papers are published on the IAHR home page http://www.iahr.nl/watervision.htm and comments received will be posted up. We invite you to participate in the discussion by sending your comments on the discussion papers and further contributions to IAHR as soon as possible.
