Velocity and depth distributions in a river's meander using
IFIM methodology
I am a spanish forest engineer working on a master thesis about
sampling methods in minimum stream flow approaches using IFIM methodology.
I want to strart my work at a "theoretical" river reach,
where depth and width are known at each point along a river´s
meander with a riffle-pool dynamic. Once we know that theoretical
relationships, I would adjust them in a hydraulic simulation model
and I would analyse velocity and depth distributions in the meander
using IFIM methodology. I have read a lot on this subject (Fargue,
Chang, régime theory, etc..) but all works are about mean
depth and mean width in a river reach using bankfull discharge,
slope, etc... However, I would like to know depth, width and cross
section shapes along the river meander for mean or low discharges.
I would appreciate any help concerning this matter.

Student interested in surge tanks
As a French student in civil engineering, I'm working for 3 months
on the subject of hydroelectric buildings for the Electricity Control
Bureau of DRIRE RHONE-ALPES, in Grenoble (France). I'm especially
interested in surge tanks that can reduce the effect of water hammer
in tunnels. I'm looking for pieces of information about these buildings
as regards the different types of structures, their global function
as well as their (hydraulic) calculation. I'm also interested in
the modifications that could be made for dangerous old surge tanks
that are rejecting water on their tops. I hope you'll be able to
provide me this type of information.

Doctor in Hydraulic Engineering
I have recently completed a PhD in hydraulic engineering at St.
Petersburg State University, Russia. The research area is 'settling
basin like series of bunkers with vertical flushing system'. I would
be grateful if someone could inform me about job vacancies in this
field.
