From: Martin Teal To: Vaughan, Mike ; Rivers List Subject: Re: Rivers-List: Flood Forecasting / Flood Warning Date: 05 July 2000 18:36 Dear Mike - Although I am by no means an expert in this area, I am familiar with two approaches being used: 1) The U.S. National Weather Service's River Forecast System (see http://hsp.nws.noaa.gov/oh/).  This model is used both in the U.S. and other locations in the world. 2) A combination of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers models HEC-1 (there is a special forecasting version called HEC-1F) and the 1-D unsteady flow model UNET.  Some offices of the Corps and others (e.g., Lower Colorado River Authority in Texas) use this approach. I know this is brief, but hope it helps. Marty Teal -- Martin J. Teal, P.E., P.H.
