The Maas River catchment is situated in France, Belgium and The Netherlands. The study is aimed at the following questions: * Which factors determine floods (including changes due to natural or anthropogenic causes)? * What are the effects of floods on safety and on other features like navigation, water supply and nature development? * What are the management instruments available to prevent or mitigate floods, while meeting other management goals at the same time? * What are the strategic choices to be made in flood management? The duration of the project is 4 years and the intention is that it leads to a PhD thesis to be defended at the University of Twente.
