Fluvial Processes.

M. Selim Yalin & A.M.Ferreira da Silva, 2001, Members: EURO 40,-;Non-members: EURO 50,-

This monograph, designed for researchers and graduate students in hydraulic engineering, water resources and related earth sciences, concerns the understanding and quantitative formulation of fluvial processes and associated alluvial forms The book comes complete with a CD-ROM containing software for the computation of resistance factor and regime channels.

Turbulence Models and Their Application in Hydraulics.
W. Rodi, 1993, 116 pages, 41 figures Members:EURO 34.00,-; Non-members:EURO 42.50,-

A concise and informative reference for researchers in the field of hydraulics where applications of turbulence models are gained momentum. Introduction, Turbulence modelling; Examples of applications to hydraulic problems; Conclusions; Appendices.

Mobile Barrages and Intakes on Sediment Transporting Rivers,
M. Bouvard, 1991, 320 pages Members: EURO 101.60,-; Non-members:EURO 127.00,-

River water intake works implement all facilities to obtain water meeting quantity and quality requirements. Designing river water intake works has a heavy responsibility. The various links in the water intake chain are tightly interconnected, and their operation cannot be considered separately. Sediment phenomena and water intake design; Flow through hydraulic structure; Gate-structure dams; Water intakes; Sediment traps; Gates & associated equipment; Project summaries

Debris Flow.
T. Takahashi, 1991, 156 pages. Members: EURO 82.40,-; Non-members: EURO 103.00,-

In Japan, debris flow is an important object of research in science and engineering. Observation systems have been established in the basins with often occurring debris flow. The nature of debris flow; Mechanics of flow; Processes of occurrence, development and declination; Characteristics of fully developed flow; Processes of deposition; References.

Turbulence in open-channel Flows
I. Nezu/H.Nakagawa, 1993, 286 pages Members: EURO 82.40,-; Non-members: EURO 103.00,-.

Turbulent transport processes in rivers and estuaries have broad consequences on such phenomena as velocity distribution, bed shear stress, energy loss, sediment transport, pollutant spreading and air entrainment. Hence, the understanding of and the ability to predict turbulence phenomena in open-channel flows are widely sought. This monograph reviews the state-of-the-art on open channel turbulence, and treats especially certain unique features stemming from the presence of the free surface and the bed of a river. Contents: Statistical theory of turbulence; Coherent structures in open-channel flows and boundary layers.

Hyperconcentrated Flow
Zhaohui Wan/Zhaoyin Wang, 1994, 304 pages Members: EURO 77.60,-: Non-members: EURO 97.00,-.

Hyperconcentrated flow is a phenomenon peculiar to the Yellow River Basin. Significant erosion and siltation associated with hyperconcentrated flow give rise to many problems of river management. On the other hand, irrigation in conjunction with warping that utilises turbid water at hyperconcentrations greatly enriches agriculture in arid and semi-arid areas. The feasibility of utilising the great potential for sediment carrying by hyperconcentrated flow can also be applied to topics as hypertransport, debris flow and sediment releases form reservoirs. The development of the theory of hyperconcentrated flow enriches the knowledge of mechanics of sediment transport.

Mudflow Rheology and Dynamics
Ph. Coussot, 1997, 272 pages. Members: EURO 87.20,-: Non-members: EURO 109.00,-.

This book is intended to present current knowledge in the field of mudflows. This includes both rheological aspects (the constitutive equation of flowing mud) and flow characteristics in open channels. The type of material considered is mud at large, or, in rather more physical terms, a suspension containing a large fraction of colloidal particles, in general clay, which gives it a more or less unctuous aspect and in general controls the rheological behaviour of the whole material. Contents: Physical properties of suspensions; Introduction to rheology and fluid dynamics; Introduction to suspension rheology; Shear rheometry with suspensions; Rheology of clay-water mixtures; Rheology of mud suspensions; Fundamental equations for viscoplastic flows; Uniform flows; Roll waves; Gradually and rapidly varied free surface flows; Mudflow force; Spreading, stoppage and deposits; References; etc.

Physical Processes and Chemical Reactions in Liquid Flows
F.S Rhys/A. Gyr, 1998, 248 pages, Members: EURO 72.00,-: Non-members: EURO 90.00,-.

The book presents excellent research on the topic of reactive flows. It contains some theoretical aspects but also experimental techniques and development of models implemented in computational fluid dynamics software. This work is preparing the tools which will be applied tomorrow to practical problems. Contents: An introduction to chemical reactions developing in a turbulent medium; The mixing-sensitive product distribution of chemical reactions; Laser-induced fluorescence tomography of inert and reactive free jets; Wavelet analysis of mixing patterns in a turbulent jet; Some applications of the measurement of concentration in liquids by laser-induced fluorescence; Determination of the velocity-concentration correlation in liquids by laser-induced fluorescence; Stability of an erodible bed of lead granulates at low wall shear stress; Drag reduction by polymers and surfactants; etc.
