Lagrangian model for continuous saltating grains in flowing water

A mathematical model for particle continuous saltating motion near the granular bed in open channel flow was developed. The model is based on the Lagrangian equations governing particle motion and it takes into account drag and lift forces, as well as gravitation and virtual mass forces and the force responsible for particleparticle interactions. A model of particle-particle collisions is developed and used to determine the mean impulsive force acting upon the flowing particle and rebounding from the channel bed. The model is able to simulate the continuous saltating trajectories of single particle in near-bed region of turbulent flows in which the particle motion is controlled by collisions. The model was calibrated and verified with available publishing data in rather wide range of sizes of grains since 0.53mm till 31mm. All parameters as lift, drag, restitution, friction coefficients and roughness height are set based on a reanalysis of this published data.
