Large eddy simulation of flow in meandering open channels

In this paper, a large eddy simulation of the turbulent flow in a periodic meandering open channel with a rectangular cross-section is reported. The Reynolds number based on the channel height is 40.000 and the aspect ratio of the cross-section is 4.48. The obtained mean velocity components show good agreement with the experimental measurements. The LES results are used to study the complex mechanisms of secondary motion along the meander. Focus is given on the interaction between the center-region cell and the outer-bank cell.
