IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Sph simulation of non-developed turbulence in hydraulic jumps
Author : ALIREZA VALIZADEH
ABSTRACT
The standing waves resulting from a hydraulic jump provide an endless ride opportunity to indoor surfers. In this paper we
study the turbulence produced by hydraulic jumps in an open channel. For the numerical analyses a weakly compressible
model of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method is used. The numerical model is verified for free surface flows of
wave propagation and 2D turbulence in confined domains. In addition, for undular hydraulic jumps, the wave amplitude,
length and flow characteristics in the non-developed turbulent zone are also studied to investigate the possibility of using
hydraulic jump in design of artificial surfing waves and currents.
