Numerical estimation of saltation gravel transported on irregular bed
Abrasion due to saltation gravel transported by flood flow is a main factor of a detachment of algae attached to the
riverbed cobbles. The amount of algae to be detached is related to impingement condition which consists of probabilistic
distributions of location, momentum and angle of the saltation gravel that impinges on the riverbed cobbles. The
impingement condition, as a barometer of algae detachment efficiency, depends on flow situation, configuration of
riverbed cobbles and saltation gravel size. The purpose of this study is to provide the probabilistic distribution of
saltation gravel impingement on riverbed. A numerical model based on particle method is used to describe the trajectory
of saltation gravel transported on the irregular shaped channel bed. The model validation by comparing experimental
result is reported in this paper.
