IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Drivers of delta subsidence
The worldĄŻs fertile delta regions, that are supporting large human populations, are subject to significant and irreversible
changes due to massive urbanization, climate and land-use change, and land subsidence. Delta subsidence causes a
range of problems, including flooding, fresh water and land scarcity, salt water intrusion, damage to buildings and
infrastructure, loss of cultivated land, wetlands and biodiversity, degradation of fishing areas, and rapid shoreline retreat.
Combined with future sea level rise, submergence of deltaic areas is projected to increase by 50% by the end of this
