IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Marine renewable energy converter with latching control

Pioneers in product innovation within the newly formed ocean wave renewable energy conversion industry, have produced radical designs of wave energy converters (WEC). However, a “center of gravity” has not yet been formed towards one particular design with an initial, at least, market attractiveness. Marketplace acceptance requires meeting buyer expectations in product features, form, capabilities, cost and in practicalities such as distribution, installation and maintenance. Thus, a dominant design, at least from the existing WECs, has not yet been identified. The industry is in fluid phase, according to the Abernathy – Utterback model.2
