2d3d hybrid numerical analysis on tsunami wave height reduction due to an inverse dam
In this study, considering an assumed Nankai Trough Earthquake Tsunami, we calculate and evaluate the effect of tsunami damping according to water elevation behind the Marine Inverse Dam by applying a 2D3DHybrid model. We find that the dam has the measurable effect of declining water elevation, and the height on the coast in its vicinity. The lower the wall the Marine Inverse Dam has, the more effective for tsunami mitigation it is. But we also find that the mitigating effect exists over a comparatively narrow range compared to the large size of the structure. We compute the incoming tsunami from the assumed source, towards the coast with increasing resolution using nested layers. We compare the results from the plane two-dimensional analysis with the 2D3DHybrid analysis to check the difference in the flow around the structure computed using the 3D model. We also checked our results with the Cabinet office analysis for validation.
