A model for generating residential water demand pulses with correlated duration and intensity

ABSTRACT
In this paper a Poisson model for generating residential water demand pulses with correlated duration and intensity is
proposed and applied to the case study of the households in Milford, Ohio (Buchberger et al., 2003). Correlation is
obtained by representing the two variables as random variables following the bivariate normal distribution. The results of
the model are compared with the experimental data and with the results of a model which does not consider the
correlation. The analysis showed that the model taking correlation into account leads more consistent synthetic water
demand pulses, which are better in agreement with those measured in terms of overall daily demand volume.
