IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

ABSTRACT
Constructed wetlands (CW) are widely used nowadays to treat a broad range of waste waters. The treatment of
contaminants depends on physical, chemical and biological processes. In turn, the efficiency of these processes is linked
to the way water flows through the system. Given the number of factors that affect CW removal efficiency, these systems
have to be monitored, in order to check that theoretical parameters used for their design actually remain on field. This
document deals with three CW in the framework of the LIFE+12 ALBUFERA project. Preliminary results obtained from a
one year monitoring campaign are presented. Water quality and hydraulic performance conclusions regarding different
types of sectors are discussed, taking into account other environmental factors, such as biodiversity in the CW.
