IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

A study on multi-baffle dissipation effective analysis of weir downstream
Author : LEE, CHANG HUN(1), KANG, JOON GU(2) & YEO, HONG KOO(3)
ABSTRACT
This study is an experimental study for analyzing the dissipation effect of multi-directional hydraulic energy dissipator in
order to improve scouring on the weir downstream combining the movable weir and the fixed weir. The hydraulic
experiment of dissipation effect due to the installation of hydraulic energy dissipators was the experiment in stationary
phase, and the flow characteristics due to the arrangement of hydraulic energy dissipators were reviewed. With this, for
the arrangement plan with the highest effect, the scouring experiment under movable bed conditions was carried out with
the semi actual-scale. As a result of hydraulic experiment, the arrangement of hydraulic energy dissipators in V-shape
showed the highest flow reduction effect and it showed the flow reduction effect by approximately 40~50% in comparison
to the case of non-installation of hydraulic energy dissipator. As a result of hydraulic model experiment for V-shape
arrangement plan, it was confirmed that the scour depth was reduced by 36% and the scour length was reduced by 49%
due to the flow reduction in comparison to the case of non-installation of hydraulic energy dissipator
