Measurement of shear stress-secondary flow in double section experimental channel

ABSTRACT
The hydraulic stability of the ecological restoration technology was examined, which is used for the recent restoration
and eco-friendly design of the river in Korea. Recently river restoration project is being conducted for satisfying both the
ecological and environmental function, and the ecological restoration technology should satisfy the hydraulic stability in
flood season. So the experiment was conducted to evaluate the bed shear stress. This paper is direct measurements of
bed shear stress in double section experimental channel. The data were measured using a bed shear stress measuring
device. Bed shear stress and shear velocity are fundamental variables in river studies to calculate the sediment
transport field, the scour, deposition and river bed change. A variety of methods have been used to measure bed shear
stress. However it is difficult to accurately measure, especially in complex flow. Experimentally, the measurements of the
bed shear stress under regular waves may be classified as direct and indirect methods. In this paper, bed shear stress
measuring devices were mounted on the bottom in a double section experimental channel which was equipped with the
large size pump, high-speed waterway and speed control flap and direct measurements of the bed shear stress was
calculated by examining the interaction between the shear plate and shear transducers at the moment which the
experiment block is moving at. Bed shear stress is calculated through the relationship between the measured force by
the shear plate and shear transducers.
