Numerical analysis of flow and sediment transport changes in the downstream channel after the dam construction at the naesung stream watershed

River morphology and environment could be varied by flow changes due to the construction of river structures such as dams and weirs. Typically, sediments are deposited in the upstream channel of the dams and weirs due to reduced velocity and the downstream channel bed is degraded because of reduced sediment supply from the upstream reservoir.
The characteristics of flow, sediment transport, bed change, etc. are considerably changed after the dam construction and it affects to the downstream channel geometry directly. In the case of Yeongju dam which is under construction in the Naesung Stream Watershed of Korea, it is necessary to identify the possible changes after the dam construction and to suggest the best management practices. Therefore, watershed modeling should be one of possible prescreening methods to examine total changes in runoff, soil erosion, sediment transport, and net elevation and also bed change modeling should be appropriate to analyze the geometry changes in the downstream channel bed of the Yeongju dam.
