IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Sediment pool of the mustjõe stream, tallinn, estonia
Author : ARVO KÄÄRD(1), AIN VALDMANN(2) & TARMO SOOMERE(3)
The purpose of constructing a sediment pool for the Mustjõe Stream (Mustjõe oja) is to provide a solution for a sediment pool on the lower reaches of the Mustjõe Stream before the stream enters the sea and to provide opportunities to prevent seawater from rising into the Mustjõe Stream. The solution entails raising the banks of the Mustjõe Stream and constructing a hydraulic plant. The proposal is to construct soil walls (with a height of 2.0–2.5 m) on both sides of the sediment pool until the Paldiski mnt culvert, in order to prevent rising seawater from entering the sediment pool. The hydraulic plant and the pump station are to be constructed on the sediment pool’s outlet. This alternative would protect the sediment pool and the flow bed of the Mustjõe Stream until the Paldiski mnt culvert against rising seawater.
