IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

The crucial role that plants play in terms of water quality, biodiversity and banks stability is now fully appreciated by river managers. At the same time, from an engineering perspective, vegetation elements also change the hydraulic regime of natural waterways, sometimes with undesirable effects. This has motivated extensive research efforts over the last years. The main objective of this work is to assess the effect of velocity and area distribution on drag coefficients predictions. Furthermore, a model recently suggested to evaluate the drag of flexible trees is tested.
