Experimental Study of the Flow Field in Submersible Mixer with PIV

Particle image velocimetry (PIV) was used to measure the impeller outlet flow in submersible mixer. The synchronization problem during measurement was soveld by using shaft encoder and frequency dividing circuit. Measurement of the velocity fields showed that the streamlines near the outlet of the impeller migrated toward the bottom of the pool, where the high flow velocity swept the wall; The flow gradually separated at the downstream along the radial direction on the strrong vortex; The hub affected the flow field, and effect gradually weakens along the radial direction. The vortex was shown by using PIV and was simulated with the model of FLUENT, especially the large vortex. However, the position of the vortex has a little deviation. Small vortexes can be detected by using PIV from the flow field. The study reveales flow rules of impeller outlet in submersible mixer, and the reasult can be used in manufacture.
