Tolerances of Different Fish Species Exposed to Total Dissolved Gas Supersaturated Water

The total dissolved gas supersaturation (TDGS) appears in the downstream of high-dam when flood discharged. TDGS may cause gas bubble disease (GBD) in fish and increased mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine the acute lethal response of TDGS on the endemic fish residing in the upper reaches of Yangtze River, such as juvenile rock carp (Procypris rabaudi Tchang), prenant?s schizothoracin (Schizothorax prenanti Tchang) and chinese sucker (Myxocyprinus asiaticus Bleeker). The median lethal time (LT ) of juvenile rock carp exposed to TDGS was 3.40h, 4.01h, 4.32h, 6.39h and 50 11.14h in different levels of TDGS (145%, 140%, 135%, 130% and 125%), respectively. The LT of 50 juvenile prenant?s schizothoracin was 2.61h, 3.96h, 5.46h, 13.67h and 19.14h. The LT of juvenile 50 chinese sucker was 3.21h, 4.67h, 7.81h, 9.19h and 49.06h. In addition, the results indicated that median lethal concentration (LC ) of juvenile rock carp, which was exposed to TDG supersaturated water 50 continuously for 4h, 6h, 8h and 10h, was 139%, 130%, 128% and 127%, respectively. The LC of 50 juvenile prenant?s schizothoracin was 137%, 134%, 133% and 132%. The LC of juvenile chinese sucker 50 was 142%, 138%, 135% and 130%. Tolerances of different species exposed to TDG supersaturated water were various. Compared with juvenile rock carp and prenant?s schizothoracin, juvenile chinese sucker showed highest tolerance to TDGS. Juvenile prenant?s schizothoracin had more tolerance than that of juvenile rock carp.
