Analysis on the Periodicity of Annual Extreme Water Level in the Tidal Reaches of Xijiang River,China

The periodicities of annual highest and lowest water level in the lower tidal reaches of Xijiang river are analyzed. The conventional periodogram and the maximum entropy spectral analysis are applied in this paper and the results are compared. The computations show that there are similarities and differences in the periodicities of annual extreme water level of these five hydrologic stations. And the results reveal that the oceanic astronomical tide is likely the main component which affects the water level series in the lower tidal reaches of Xijiang river.
