IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Special Sessions of IAHR 2013 World Congress

This volume of proceedings of IAHR 2013 World Congress includes the selected manuscripts of presentations made at special sessions, which are held in parallel with the regular sessions during the 5-day main programs of IAHR 2013 World Congress from September 8th to 13th, 2013 at Chengdu, China. The special sessions of IAHR 2013 World Congress consist of 5 special seminars and 3 workshops, which are proposed and hosted by leading researchers in their individual water-related disciplines from all over the world. In total, the special sessions received 79 abstracts, out of which 39 full papers are reviewed and included herein. The topics covered in the special sessions are: (1) Debris Flow Hazards and Mitigation, (2) Challenges and Issues in Water Resources Management in Africa, (3) Special Session in memory of Stephen Coleman, (4) Impact of Extreme Hydrodynamic Forces on Infrastructure, (5) Climate Change Sensitive Sustainable Water Resources Planning and Management (for memory of late Prof. Toshiharu Kojiri), (6) Environment-Friendly Hydropower Development, (7) Environmental Dynamics and Management in the Sanjiangyuan, and (8) Water-Economy-Ecology Interactions and Natural-Social Dualistic Water Cycle. Finally, we would like to thank Prof. Zhaoyin Wang, the Editor-in-Chief of the proceedings of the IAHR 2013 World Congress, for his support to our efforts of compiling this volume of papers presented in the special sessions.
