Lake como west arm exchange program pilot study

A pilot study to test the effectiveness of a proposed flushing system was undertaken in Lake Como, Italy. The experiment looked at the ability of one 2.2 kW impeller to generate a horizontal intrusion by jetting surface water towards the metalimnion. Measurements of dissolved oxygen and injected rhodamine were used to track the intrusion. The impeller was able to generate a horizontal intrusion of approximately 25 m 3 s -1 . The results from the pilot study will be used to validate a 3-Dimensional model and aid the design ofthe finalsystem.
