Pátzcuaro lake, a spring made water body
Author : L. E. Rendón , X. Li , and M. E. Lara
The springs located in the shore of the lake of Páztcuaro contribute to an important amount of water apt for the human consumption and uses of agriculturist and cattle ranch. In the same manner the entrance of part of this water to the lake also improves the quality of the lake water. In the last years, these springs are in a deterioration state. In this work activities of characterization and restoration of fifteen high-priority springs are briefly described. Characterizations include studies of gauging and quality of water that serve as technical base to planprograms of rehabilitation short, medium advantage of and long term. The developed activities in the restorationinclude fence installation, control of the aquatic weeds, removal of sediments, control of the erosion, control of source contamination, as well as regeneration and charge renewal.
