Shoreline change in past river mouth of iwaki river
Author : Mikio Sasaki, Masashi Sato
In history, the mouth of Iwaki River had been blockaded several times every year before the present jetty was constructed. We were able to obtain the measurement record of the mouth of the river before the constructing of the jetty. In present study, topographical changes and the process of the river mouth blockage in the River Iwaki are shown and the characteristics of the shoreline changes and the cause of the river moth blockage in the mouth of River Iwaki are discussed. The shore greatly moves in winter. The movement in summer is smaller than that in winter. The movement of the shore in the river mouth was caused by higher incident waves from the south or the north. The blockage frequency for three years from 1922 to 1924 is seven times. However, the river mouth blockage occurred when the bank moved to the south or hardly moved.
