Transportation of solid bodies in wave flows predicted by 3d multiphase model

A computational method has been developed to predict the transportation of largescale solid bodies due to three-dimensional free-surface flows. In this method, the multiphase field, consisting of the liquid and gas phases including the solid bodies, is assumed to be composed of the incompressible and immiscible fluids with different physical properties. The computational method with a one-fluid model is applied to the multiphase field in order to evaluate the fluid forces acting on the solid bodies. The rotational and translational motions of the solid bodies are predicted with the evaluated fluid forces and the contact forces obtained by a DEM model. It was shown that the present numerical method enables us to predict accurately Rayleigh-Taylor stability problem and drag coefficient of a sphere in a uniform flow as well as the results of hydraulic experiments in which multiple spheres are transported by the free-surface flows.
