Discussion on the Index System for assessing the Multiple Effects of Sediment Flushing

Sediment flushing is a main measurement to prolong the lifetime of reservoir, increase the capacity of reservoir in order to relieve sedimentation. However, attention is paid more to the efficiency of sediment flushing due to the limited water resources. The effect of sediment flushing on ecological environments downstream are ignored, including the river bed being scoured, dissolved oxygen decreasing, sediment content increasing rapidly etc. Synthesizing index system is advanced considering the effects of sediment flushing on economy, ecological environments and society, based on the current research fruits in the field of sediment flushing home and abroad, which can help support the assessment the synthesizing effects of sediment flushing.
