SIMULATING TEMPARATURAL DIFFUSION OF COOLING WATER FROM NINH THUAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT (NPP) TO SURROUNDING SEA WATER ENVIRONMENT

According to national electrical master plan, from 2011 to 2020 and vision to 2030, 2 nuclear power plants will be constructed in Ninh Thuan provinces. In order to operate safely, a huge sea water volume is taken from the sea to cool the machinery system and cooled water is released to the sea.
The simulation was carried out using MIKE21 FM for the 8 scenarios to investigate how the effect of hot water after being used as cooling. The results showed that after going out the outlet, hot water diffuse into sea water environment and cause to increase surrounding temperature. The affected area depends on sea resultant currents caused by tides, waves and wind. The affected area where its temperature is of 10C higher than surrounding environment is developed along the coasts to the North or south. The maximum affected distance is of above 2500 m for neap tide phase and 1000m for spring tide phase in winter season and these values are significantly smaller during the summer. The travelling distance perpendicularly to the coast in all cases is less than 1000m from outlet and not affected to water intake gates.
