IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Simulations of Seasonal Variations of Sea Ice and Plankton in the Bering and Chukchi Seas

A 3D physical-biological was applied to the Bering-Chukchi Sea. The model reasonably reproduced the seasonal variation of sea ice, circulation, and phytoplankton in the Bering- Chukchi Sea. The phytoplankton bloom was predominantly controlled by the retreat of sea ice on the Bering Shelf. The model and the data reveal the complexity of the lower trophic dynamics in the Bering and Chukchi Seas. Proceedings of the 23rd IAHR International Symposium on Ice
