IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Prof. Ramchandra Janardan Garde (1929-2010)

Prof. Ramchandra Janardan Garde (former member) passed away on February 17, 2010 in Pune, India. He was born at Satara (Maharashtra), India on April 19, 1929. He obtained his U.G. degree from Universities of Poona and Bombay in India, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Colorado State University, Fort Collins (USA). He was awarded the D.Sc. degree by the Pune University, India in 1985.
Prof. Garde was always loved by his students, colleagues and staff for his fine teaching, endearing manners and helpful attitude. He shall be remembered for generations to come due to his significant contributions to the field of Hydraulic Engineering. Read full obituary

I have a great appreciation for the late Prof Garde's clear thinking and in depth knowledge displayed in his fluid mechanics books, left behind for all of us, specifically me, (curious by nature)helping me to understand complicated engineering in such a logical way. He is now an icon my life.
