IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Chair in Structural Engineering, University of Nottingham, UK

The University of Nottingham seeks to appoint an exceptional, internationally recognised researcher to join a world class university as a professor in the field of Structural Engineering. The successful candidate will provide leadership, vision and drive, bring an impressive network of links with industry and academia, nationally and internationally, and have proven ability in identifying and promoting key research areas.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in Structural Engineering with the demonstrated ability to develop a research team and to attract research funding from sources such as the EU, industry and Research Councils and other funding sources. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and leadership skills and credibility with both industry and fellow academics. The successful candidate will have expertise in one of the key fields related to structural engineering.

Research will be based within the Faculty of Engineering. The appointed candidate will lead an existing research group of 7 academics in research areas ranging from wind engineering to composite materials to informatics. Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activity takes place within the Department of Civil Engineering. The person appointed will also have a passion for teaching at all levels, including delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervision of individual and group projects, and pastoral care.

The University of Nottingham's position as a world-class University is confirmed by its ranking in the global league tables. We are ranked in the top 1 per cent of all universities worldwide in the QS World University Rankings, with a ranking of 75th in the world.  In REF2014 we ranked 3/62 by research power  in the General Engineering panel and overall 89% of activity was rated 3* or 4*, with 27% at 4*.
