PhD studentship in the synthesis of novel polymers for water purification, University of Edinburgh, UK

PhD studentship in the synthesis of novel polymers for water purification

Supervisors: Prof. Neil B. McKeown and Dr. Michael Shaver, School of Chemistry, University of Edinburgh

This is a 36-month studentship that provides UK/EU tuition fees and an annual tax-free stipend at the EPSRC rate which is £14,057 in academic year 2015/16.

The project will focus on the synthesis of polymer-based adsorbents for water purification. The successful candidate will be engaged in collaborative research with industrial partners towards the objective of producing novel materials of environmental benefit.

Applicants should have the equivalent of a UK first class or upper second class Honours degree in chemistry or other relevant discipline, and must have an interest in synthetic chemistry (i.e. polymer or organic). The studentship provides a maintenance grant/stipend (at the Research Council UK rate) and tuition fees at the Home/EU rate for a period of 36-months. Applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements of the UK Research Councils (https://www.epsrc.ac.uk/skills/students/help/eligibility/). Owing to funding restrictions non-EU citizens cannot be considered.

Applications should include a CV and the contact details for at least two academic referees. Informal enquiries can be addressed to neil.mckeown@ed.ac.uk or michael.shaver@ed.ac.uk

The deadline for consideration is Friday 30th June 2016 at 5pm (GMT) and applications will be reviewed as they are received.
