IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Ciro Galo Menendez Alcazar (1942-2016)
Ciro Galo Menendez Alcazar, was a distinguished IAHR Individual Member since 1978.  He was born in the town of Jipijapa, in the Coastal Region of the Ecuador on July 14, 1942.  In 1964, he moved to the city of Quito, initially as a student and then as a permanent resident.  He graduated of Civil Engineer at the National Polytechnic School in 1970.
