„Coastal Engineering and Maritime Constructions“
- succeeding Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hocine Oumeraci -
The successful applicant will represent the research field of coastal engineering at world-leading level and will expand her/his innovative scientific profile within this research area at TU Braunschweig. The main topics in experimental and process-oriented basic and applied research are expected to focus on constructive coastal engineering as well as in harbour and offshore engineering. Research topics could include:
• Interactions between waves, fluid dynamics, sediment transport, vegetation, coastal geomorphology as well as coastal and offshore construction engineering,
• Morphodynamics in coastal zones and impacts on near-shore ecosystems,
• Risk analysis and flood defence against storm surges,
• Innovative concepts for ecosystem-based coastal protection.
The position also includes teaching Coastal Engineering and Hydromechanics lectures for undergraduate and graduate students of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Engineering Management as well as for the external master programme ProWater. BA study programmes are held in German, Master study programmes are held in German and/or English.
The position is endowed with a unique laboratory facility for excellence research in coastal engineering with the Joint Central Institution „Coastal Research Centre (FZK) (Great Wave Flume) in Hannover and the Hydraulic Lab of the Leichtweiß-Institute (LWI) in Braunschweig (twin wave flume, 3D-wave basin).
Interdisciplinary collaborations within FZK, LWI and with other institutes of the department, e.g. in the area of computational fluid dynamics or in the analysis of ecological issues is expected. Furthermore, an active participation in developing the new research focus "Stadt der Zukunft"/ "Future City" is expected. The participation in academic self-governance at all levels is mandatory. Applicants are also expected to have an outstanding publication record, a proven ability to acquire third-party funding, and experience in project coordination.
The appointment conditions are in accordance with § 25 Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Nds. Hochschulgesetz).
