IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Academic Positions in Civil Engineering Department, PNG University of Technology, Lae, Papua New Guinea

PAPUA NEW GUINEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

The University

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology is located in the industrial city of Lae, the second largest city in Papua New Guinea. The city of Lae has an airport with flights to any location in PNG. The University is the only technological university in the Pacific. It has a main campus and three amalgamated colleges. The main campus has 14 academic departments including one Department of Open and Distance Learning (ODL). It offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, natural and applied sciences, built environment, language and business. The university has an Information Technology Services department and a Library.

Applications are invited for the following positions:

Department of Civil Engineering

The Department offers programs in environmental, structural, geotechnical, pavement, traffic, water and wastewater engineering and construction management. It needs to fill the following positions:

Professors of Environmental Engineering and of Structural Engineering (2 positions)

A doctoral degree in Environment Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognized university is required for these positions. The successful candidate will have at least 15 papers that have been published in listed, peer reviewed journals and at least 15 years of full time university teaching experience or equivalent industrial research experience. Evidence of having guided postgraduate students is required. Familiarity with teaching in distance mode and with using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage. Subjects to be taught by the successful applicant include structural analysis and design, engineering materials, coastal engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnics, pavement design, environment engineering and mechanics of deformable solids.

Associate Professors of Environment Engineering and of Structural Engineering (2 positions)

A doctoral degree in Environment Engineering or Structural Engineering from a recognized university is required for either of these positions. The successful candidate will have at least 10 papers that have been published in listed, peer reviewed journals and at least 10 years of full time university teaching experience or equivalent industrial research experience. Familiarity with teaching in distance mode and with using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage. Subjects to be taught by the successful applicant include structural analysis and design, engineering materials, coastal engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnics, pavement design, environment engineering and mechanics of deformable solids.

Senior Lecturers in Environment Engineering and in Structural Engineering (2 positions)

A doctoral degree from a recognized university is required for either of these positions. The candidate must have at least 5 papers that have been published in listed, peer reviewed journals and at least 5 years of full time university teaching or the equivalent of that in industrial research work. Familiarity with teaching in the distance mode and with using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage. Subjects to be taught by the successful applicant include structural analysis and design, engineering materials, coastal engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnics, pavement design, environment engineering and mechanics of deformable solids

Lecturers in Environment Engineering and in Structural Engineering (2 positions)

These positions require a doctoral degree from a recognized university. The candidate must show evidence of research potential and keenness to work collaboratively with others. Evidence of familiarity with teaching in the distance mode and of using learning management systems such as Google Classroom or Moodle will be an added advantage. Subjects to be taught by the successful applicant include structural analysis and design, engineering materials, coastal engineering, bridge engineering, geotechnics, pavement design, environment engineering and mechanics of deformable solids.
