Research Fellow in Fluid Dynamics, University of Warwick, UK
Fixed term for 3 years 

A 3-year Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Mathematics Institute at Warwick to lead challenging research into developing new models for free-surface microflows. This will form part of a substantial EPSRC-funded project Darcy-scale dynamics of microscopically fluctuating interfaces. 

The project is motivated by recent experimental discoveries, by partners in Cambridge, that small-scale liquid-liquid interfaces can be driven into motion by elastic turbulence in the bulk flow. Working in partnership with colleagues at Birmingham, this project will develop micro-models that feed into a macroscopic theory for the phenomenon. At Warwick, the focus will be on gaining insight into the fundamental physical mechanisms using a combination of modelling and computational simulation. 

This position is to work with Dr James Sprittles and Dr Colm Connaughton in the Mathematics Institute, which in REF2014 was placed first in the UK for Research Environment with 92% of the research was rated world leading or internationally excellent. 

You will also be integrated into an ever-expanding group of 12 researchers (including 5 PDRAs) tackling related micro and nano flow phenomena (see http://www.micronanoflows.ac.uk/) and will be expected to participate in their weekly group meetings. 

You should have (or be due to submit soon) a PhD, or have equivalent experience, in physics, applied mathematics, in an engineering science, or computational science. You will need to have a strong background in mathematical modelling and some experience of computational simulation. You will have a record of research papers published in journals (or accepted to be published). 

A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, you will be able to manage your own workload, working both independently and as part of a team as required. You will demonstrate a high level of enthusiasm for the research programme and the development of further research opportunities.
