IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

Postdoc Research Associate Position in Water Resources Engineering, Penn State University, US
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Penn State University has a fixed-term (two-year) postdoc research associate position opening starting in the summer or fall of 2017. This position is funded through an external project to design and evaluate a nature-like fish passage at a hydroelectric dam in Pennsylvania. Fish passages have been long considered as one of the most effective river restoration options to ensure the free migration of fishes and other aquatic species. This project on a major river in the mid-Atlantic region has the potential for great impact on fishery, water supply, recreation, and overall economy. Thus, it will be highly visible to the public and research community.
Job responsibility: The major responsibility of the research associate is to build a laboratory scaled model and carry out flow measurements for the assessment of different design options. The research associate will work with a team comprised of faculty members, one PhD student who will focus on computational modeling, and several undergraduate students. This position is renewable depending on performance and funding availability.
Requirements and qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in civil engineering or related fields with a focus on hydraulics, environmental fluid mechanics, or water resources in general. The applicant must have prior experience with experimentation and flow measurement.
To be considered for this position or if you need more information about this opening, please contact Dr. Xiaofeng Liu (xliu@engr.psu.edu) or Dr. Peggy Johnson (paj6@engr.psu.edu). Please send a copy of CV, a cover letter, and the contact information of three referees. Review of applications will begin on July 1, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled.
