IAHR, founded in 1935, is a worldwide independent member-based organisation of engineers and water specialists working in fields related to the hydro-environmental sciences and their practical application. Activities range from river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, through to ice engineering, hydroinformatics, and hydraulic machinery.

General Information

More than a school, Université Laval is an entire community in the heart of Quebec City, a complete university recognized for its culture of excellence both in teaching and research.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Université Laval, aims to fill a tenure-track professor position in the field of Hydraulic Machines. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is composed of 25 professors supervising over 600 undergraduate students and over a hundred graduate students. The Department offers various programs of study, including an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, an undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering as well as many graduate programs. The chosen candidate will lead the activities of the Laboratory of Hydraulic Machines (LAMH, https://lamh.gmc.ulaval.ca/home). The LAMH owns experimental infrastructures which are unique in Canada and is supported by Granting Agencies and major industrial partners, international in scope.

Position Description The candidate must possess a strong expertise in experimental research in the field of Hydraulic Turbines, as well as relevant experience in teaching. The Department of Mechanical Engineering hosts an experimental laboratory for the characterization of hydraulic machines, the study of fluid flows that govern their operation and fluid-structures analysis. By becoming head of the research group, it is expected that the candidate will continue ongoing industrial research partnerships and establish new ones. She or he will determine research topics with the research partners and will lead the research that will take place in the LAMH. The research activities of the person hired will join those already in place at the Department, more specifically those of the Fluid Mechanics group. The teaching fields will include, but not limited to, Theoretical, Experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics, as well as its application in the field of Turbomachinery.

The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students and carry out sponsored or contractual research.

Qualifications To hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field. To possess relevant and recognized experience in research, in technology transfer and in scientific management (industrial, academic, research centre, governmental organization). To be a member (P. Eng.) of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (the Quebec Corporation of Engineers) or take the required actions to become one, within two years after taking office. As the teaching activities are in French, the recruited person has to or will have to be able to express himself or herself in French, both in writing and orally.
