Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering, University of Akron, US

The University of Akron is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity and to the principles of affirmative action in accordance with state and federal laws. The College of Engineering is actively seeking to increase diversity within the College. Prior experience and a commitment to continue working with or teaching diverse groups and diverse students will be valued. Women, under-represented minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Assistant Professor will teach undergraduate and graduate courses within a civil engineering focus area (e.g., water resources) and may also be asked to teach core courses (e.g., statics and mechanics) at the undergraduate level. The preferred candidate will have interest in conducting collaborative research with colleagues both within the Department as well as from other departments in the university, and demonstrate potential for independent research leading to a sustainable research program. The candidate needs to also supervise Master’s and doctoral student research; and establish a viable research program leading to external funding and scholarly publications.

Applicants for the position are required to have a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and an earned doctoral degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from a nationally recognized graduate engineering program. Candidates are expected to have received their Ph.D., or completed all requirements and submitted their dissertation, before starting the position in Fall 2018.

The successful candidate will be expected to obtain professional engineering (PE) registration within a reasonable amount of time. Preference may be given to those who have teaching and/or practical experience in water resources engineering; but candidates with teaching and research interests in other areas of civil engineering will also be considered.
